Be a Blood Center Volunteer! We are looking for SPECIAL people, like YOU, to share their time and talents as a volunteer. Our volunteers enjoy a wide range of responsiblities in support of blood center services.
You can be a volunteer if you are a student needing hours to qualify for scholarships, a home maker, a retiree with extra time on your hands, a working professional or just someone considering the job market. In other words, anyone can be a volunteer!!

Every three seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion. No viable substitute for blood has ever been found, so when you need it, the only place to get it is from another human being. There's a 1 in 3 chance that someday you will need it.
Pre-number blood bags prior to mobile drives or number, stamp, and issue blood bags to donors on mobile drives.
Collects units of blood from donor services staff; removes and disposes of needles; seals tubing using a tube sealing machine in preparation for transporting to Product Management.
Assists with daily clerical functions, files, reports, record keeping, etc.
Duties will vary based on department requirements. Volunteer/student works under supervision and for a period of less than 3 months.
Provides refreshments to donors, post donation, and observe donors for any sign of reaction or bleeding from the venipuncture site.
Assists Donor Resources Coordinator and Recruiters with the preparation of Drive Chairman packets, payroll stuffers, posters, bulk mail outs and thank you letters.
Conduct regular presentations and other educational programs within the service area for elementary students in a formal classroom setting. Presentations will include discussions regarding blood components, keeping healthy, and the donation process. Other related issues that may be discussed include blood compatibility, genetics as it relates to blood types, and disease.
Serves as a Greeter in-center or on mobile blood drives - may include checking off donors from a donor appointment sheet as they enter, directing donors to appropriate screening areas, serve as liaison between donors and staff, and ensuring smooth donor flow.
Provides clerical support to Information Systems staff.
Transport blood and process tubes from area blood drives and satellite centers to respective centers for component preparation and testing.
Recruit donors of minority/untapped communities.
Coordinate speaking engagements with volunteer speakers and Center staff; will require being active in area Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters, health/hospital and public relations organizations.
Telephones prospective donors from available call list; schedules donors; updates donor records.
To serve as speaker and spokesperson for the Blood Center at various civic, community, and professional organizations. | |
