Lake Charles, Louisiana — LifeShare Blood Center at 214 Dr. Michael DeBakey Drive will hold its annual Hurricane Preparedness Drive on Monday, June 26 through June 30, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, July 1, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. Blood donors giving at the Lake Charles center will automatically be entered to win a Generac generator donated by Thermacon.
The National Weather Service reminds residents to have a plan and be prepared for hurricanes every year. Part of the plan for our community to be prepared for any disaster is to have a stable blood supply at all times.
“We’re in the heart of the season for natural disasters, and we want to help the community be prepared at all times. It’s not just enough to have individual emergency plans. Giving blood in advance of the need is vital to support medical treatments at all times, especially prior to a disaster when medical needs increase and road conditions or other effects may prohibit donors from giving,” says Chisa Evans, Center Manager at LifeShare Blood Centers in Lake Charles.
LifeShare encourages anyone who is 16 years or older to visit the donor center or a blood drive to see if they are eligible to donate blood. Center and blood drive locations and hours may be found at lifeshare.org or by calling 337-436-4932.
