LEGACY ENDOWMENT FUND

Shreveport, La., January 7, 2015- Dedicated funds bequeathed to LifeShare Blood Centers by a local Shreveport blood donor, missionary and beloved church member have been used to establish the LifeShare Blood Centers’ Legacy Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation of North Louisiana.

Vivian Dell Holder is a rare example of individuals who spend their lives giving back,” explains Daphne Young, Development Director for LifeShare. “Miss Holder was a dedicated ministry worker on the mission fields and locally at First Baptist Church in Shreveport. Miss Holder was also an avid blood donor making 44 blood donations between 2002 and 2011 during blood drives conducted at her church,” continues Young.

Ms. Holder designated LifeShare Blood Centers as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy purchased before her death in June of 2012.  “We were shocked to learn of the financial gift,” shared Linda Allsup, Executive Vice President/CFO. “She had not communicated her wishes to anyone at LifeShare. We believe she lived her life very humbly, understated and without the need for a lot of recognition, which was further exampled by the manner in which she left her gift to LifeShare,” Allsup explained of LifeShare’s knowledge of Ms. Holder.

LifeShare executives and volunteer Board of Trustees agreed to use the money to establish a Legacy Endowment Fund to honor Ms. Holder’s life of service to others and to further enhance the financial stability of LifeShare, a non-profit organization, well into the future.  Funds contributed to the Legacy Endowment Fund are permanent while annual income earned from the fund is available to help LifeShare continue its mission.

The Community Foundation of North Louisiana has a credible and respectable history of managing funds on behalf of our communities’ non-profits.  Today, they manage over $96 million in assets, which are invested for the community’s benefit and then returned in the form of grants to a variety of charitable endeavors, including those with LifeShare.  We are honored to be part of this growing legacy,” states, Young.
