Ghislain T. Noumsi, MD, SBB (ASCP), Molecular Immunohematologist at LifeShare Blood Centers, returns Aug. 7 from participation the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion (AfSBT) 7th Biennial Congress in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
One of approximately 600 invited delegates worldwide, Dr. Noumsi who is originally from Cameroon, Africa attended the congress from July 30 to Aug. 2, 2014. The theme “Safe and Sustainable Blood Services, Lifeblood of the Future,” supports AfSBT’s goals to promote safe, adequate and quality transfusion services through education and information exchange among professionals practicing in Africa and Indian Ocean Islands.

Ghislain T. Noumsi, MD, SBB (ASCP)
After receiving a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Bamako in Mali, Africa in 2002, Dr. Noumsi became the first physician from Africa to qualify as a Specialist in Blood Banking. As part of his certification through the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2007, he conducted research and trained at LifeShare Blood Centers in Shreveport, La.
Upon completion, he returned to his home country of Cameroon and practiced as a Physician Scientist at the Chantal Biya International Reference Centre for Research on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Management until 2010. At that time he returned to LifeShare Blood Centers where he currently serves as a Molecular Immunohematologist in the John J. Moulds Immunohematology Reference Laboratory and Scientific Support Services. In addition, Dr. Noumsi provides consultancy for Major US-based pharmaceutical companies, and NGOs; and is regularly invited to speak at regional, national and international blood transfusion professional meetings.
LifeShare Blood Centers regularly supplies blood components to 117 medical facilities throughout Louisiana, East Texas and South Arkansas. The John J. Moulds Immunohematology Reference Laboratory and Scientific Support Services
The Scientific Support Services at LifeShare Blood Centers provides consulting to medical facilities and other blood centers and utilizes specialized testing methods to resolve the most difficult problems in blood compatibility. The John J. Moulds Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) is one of only 61 AABB accredited IRLs in the country and is a member of the American Rare Donor Program.
