Holiday Week Blood Supply Concern

The local blood supply is at the minimum level considered to be stable, which raises a concern going into the Independence Day holiday week. Additional donations are needed from all blood types, particularly A negative and O negative. Blood type A negative is currently the lowest in supply and the O negative supply is vital to maintain because it can be given to patients with all blood types, and in emergency situations when a blood type is unknown. Read More...

Lake Charles City Council Passes Flood Wall Resolution

The Lake Charles City Council voted unanimously in favor of a resolution supporting LifeShare Blood Centers plans to construct a four-foot high flood wall to help ensure a stable blood supply when the area is recovering from flood-related disasters. The project cost totals $715,000, of which LifeShare is seeking $157,300 in local matching contributions through a fundraising campaign. Winter Weather Creates Urgent Need for Blood Donors of All Types

LifeShare Blood Centers reports a low blood supply for all blood types, primarily as a result of the weather in the region. Poor road conditions due to ice and snow just south of this area has resulted in canceled blood drives and center closures for two consecutive weeks, estimating a loss of nearly 1,000 blood donations that would have been available for patient use. Read More...
