Brandon Boyd

Brandon Boyd was born premature on February 2, 1988 weighing in at 2.b 8oz. A few days after birth it was determined he needed a blood transfusion. We thought this was normal due to his being premature. He stayed in the hospital for 4 weeks. We thought everything was going to be fine with our bundle of joy. Shortly after being home we notice he was pale in color, fussy, and pretty much lifeless. We brought him to the hospital where they ran several test and determined he needed yet another transfusion at that time he was transported to Shreveport where he was Diagnosed with Black-Fan Diamond Anemia a rare blood disease.

At the time of Diagnoses Brandon was the about the 400th known case in the World. Life Expectancy was until about the age of 13. Brandon is now 16 years old and Full of life. He has Received Blood Transfusions every month for over 16 years. He receives 3 units of blood every 3 to 4 weeks and has to do his home medication 6 nights a week for the iron overload.

He loves life and thanks to every donor out there he gets to enjoy life to its fullest. He loves to hunt, fish, play ball, drive and attend High School. His next quest is to begin to ride bulls. Brandon is a trooper he doesn't mind telling anyone of his disease, in hopes that one-day we will find a cure! After everything he has been through he handles everything with a smile. Donors are the TRUE GIFT OF LIFE!

Brandon has attended the Natchitoches vs. Marksville Beach Bash for the past two years to help out. This year when Brandon arrived two donors were on the bus replenishing for him! Brandon stayed for several hours to help donors with refreshments, register for door prizes and to thank them for donating – and sharing life with him! Brandon wants to personally thank all that have given this precious gift of life!
