Gracie Johnson

September 16, 2003 is a day Heather and James Johnson will never forget. It was the day their 2 ½ year old daughter, Gracie was diagnosed with ALL, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Gracie who had always been healthy began running fever. She also had flat round blisters all over her body, they were even in her mouth and scalp area. Her local doctor diagnosed ALL and in less than two days Gracie was at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston receiving treatment. Thirty days after her first chemo therapy treatment Gracie was in remission. Since that time she has received numerous platelets and red blood cell transfusions. Gracie still has about a year and half of chemo therapy left, but is progressing wonderfully.

Because of the family’s commitment to the voluntary blood donor program James’ National Guard unit had a blood drive in honor of Gracie in December 2003. And a family friend organized a blood drive for Gracie in February of 2004.

Blood was available for Gracie, please give blood so it will available for all patients.
