Kadijah Renee Massey rushed into the world on July 12, 1994, at 26 weeks ( 6 1/2 months) , weighing one pound, 14 ounces at birth. As her mother, Libby Day says, “Her chance of surviving was very slim.”
The newborn was transferred by Life Flight from Jennings American Legion Hospital, where she was born, to Women & Children’s Hospital in Lake Charles. She received three blood tranfusions and stayed in the hospital for two and a half months in NICU with other premature babies.
Kadijah’s mother was able to take her home September 23, 1994. Kadijah is now 12 years old, healthy and beautiful and still rushing to meet the world. Today, thanks to modern medicine and generous blood donors, the world is wide open for Kadijah Renee Massey.
Kadijah’s mother is a donor tech at LifeShare Lake Charles. She is also a regular blood donor, and a very proud and grateful mom. Libby would like to thank blood donors for saving babies everywhere, especially for the “Gift of Life “for Kadijah.
