Robert Paul Mayeaux

Robert Paul Mayeaux has been a lifetime resident of Central Louisiana, but in May 2002 he and his family became known to LifeShare Blood Centers. That month Mr. Mayeaux was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (M3 Leukemia) which prevents blood cells from maturing. Within weeks, he had undergone surgery and had received numerous transfusions of red blood cells and platelets. In June, he was released from the hospital and was able to return home. His disease appears to be in remission, but he continues chemotherapy and receiving blood transfusions.

Mr. Mayeaux’s family, which includes four children, eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, has demonstrated their great love and true respect for him. They have held replenishment blood drives, hosted a dance, and sponsored a giveaway to offset some of the tremendous medical cost he has incurred. “Daddy raised us to have the highest standards, great respect for one another, the gift of giving, the passion to do any job better than anyone ever expects us to and simply to enjoy life. He has made his mark on all of our lives and his community,” says Rebecca Carter, daughter and blood drive chairperson for Wal-Mart Pineville. His family and friends are examples of strength and commitment during adversity.

Blood donors make differences everyday in patients’ lives. Thanks to blessings, prayers, medicine, and blood donors Mr. Mayeaux continues to enjoy his life.
