| Christa Lauren Miceli is alive today because:
- People gave blood in advance of the need. It was on the shelf completely tested and ready to be given when she needed it.
- There was an adequate supply of blood to support this unexpected large volume use.
Lauren was riding in an open sided vehicle, not wearing a seat belt. When the vehicle rounded a curve she was slung from the vehicle into a road sign. Lauren was cut deeply, her liver severely damaged, and internal bleeding was draining life from her body. Lauren appeared near death. She was rushed to a hospital in the LifeShare Blood Centers service area, where a team of surgeons proceeded to work a miracle.
Dedicated donors, along with the surgeons, saved Lauren's life. She was transfused with 317 units of blood and blood components. She has had 6 surgeries within a year. When Lauren was asked what she would like to say to donors, she said, "Be thankful you have life, continue to share it and continue to give blood. I'm alive today because of loving people like you. God has given me a second chance and because of blood donors I'll have an opportunity to give back and make a difference in someone's life."
"The concept for the T-shirt came from me, Lauren Miceli. It's my way of saying thank you for saving my life." |
