Kyra Wilson

11-year old Kyra Wilson, from Shreveport, LA was born with Sickle Cell Anemia; at age 6 she started receiving blood transfusions to manage her illness. Kyra receives a transfusion every 3 weeks to keep her healthy and out of the hospital. Kyra is a cheerleader at her school, an active member of 4H and a graduate of the Starbase program and is sponsored by the Citywide Class of 1986 Reunion.

As the poster child for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of American, NWLA Chapter, Kyra has a strong commitment to raising awareness in her community to help other patients in a similar situation.

“It is very important for you to give blood,” says Kyra’s mom, Karen. “Kyra wants to be a hematologist, to help others; without blood donors she wouldn’t be here to achieve her dream!”

For some patients, especially those with sickle cell, the only matching blood type comes from a donor the same race as them. Your blood donation may be the only one that can save someone like Kyra.
