Donor Benefit Program

LifeShare Blood Centers is a nonprofit organization with centers supplying blood and blood components to community hospitals predominately in the south central United States. This is possible because people volunteer to donate. To all of our donors, we say THANK YOU for being the special people that you are!

Donor Benefit
This benefit serves as recognition to all who give blood or blood components and members of groups that participate in blood drives. When you donate, credits are allocated in the form of a family benefit or a group benefit credit. These benefits are reimbursed up to $500 per eligible person for processing fees of blood and blood components transfused at any U. S. hospital. Benefits are available for one year from last donation.

Note: If a person chooses to give a Directed, Autologous, Therapeutic or Replenishment donation, the donation will not qualify for the Donor Benefit Plan.

Donor Recognition Options

  • Altruism – do not want a gift
  • Cholesterol screen
  • T-shirt
  • Other items when available

Directed, Autologous and Therapeutic donors are not eligible for donor recognition options.

Family Benefit
1. Family Benefit option is offered to individuals who give blood, plasma, or platelets. Coverage includes donor, parents, and other tax dependents living in the home. These benefits are reimbursed up to $500 per eligible person for processing fees of blood and blood components transfused at any U. S. hospital. Benefits are available for one year from last donation.

At the time of donation, a donor may waive plan for self, and designate benefits in another person’s name. For donor/designee to receive benefits, a LifeShare claim’s form must be filed with the blood center within six months of the hospital discharge date.

Group Benefit
2. Group Benefit is offered primarily to any business, club, church, or association. Criteria are as follows:

  • At least 40% of the group’s membership donates: All members, spouse, and tax dependents are recognized under Donor Benefit Plan.
  • Required number of donations must be completed within six months of beginning date, unless group holds more than two drives per plan year.
  • Coverage is effective immediately and extends one year from date of first drive.
  • Plan agreement signed each year by organization’s leadership and chairperson.
  • These benefits are reimbursed up to $500 per eligible person for processing fees of blood and blood components transfused at any U. S. hospital. Benefits are available for one year from last donation.

There is no charge for blood, but there is a processing fee for blood collection, testing, storage, and distribution. Hospital charges such as “type and cross-match”, transfusion fees or “administration fees” are not eligible for reimbursement.
