Emergency rooms across the country see a huge spike in patients on July 4th and 5th, with nearly 10,000 more visits than usual — many due to fireworks-related injuries. These injuries often require a lot of blood — especially red cells and plasma — to help patients heal and survive. And these spikes don’t stop with the holiday, in fact the need for blood increases throughout the Summer.
🩸 But here’s the catch:
- Blood and platelets can’t be stockpiled.
- It can’t be manufactured.
- And it only lasts a few days or weeks.
